About Yildirim Beyazit University

Before the establishment of Yildirim Beyazit University, there were four universities in Ankara, the capital of Turkey: Ankara University, Gazi University, Middle East Technical University, and Hacettepe University. With the founding of Yildirim Beyazit University, the number of public universities in Ankara serving students and offering modern and affordable educational and scientific services increased to five.

Yildirim Beyazit University was established under Law No. 27648, passed by the Turkish Parliament on June 21, 2010. The university began its actual educational operations on November 3, 2011. Its main goal is to provide modern education aligned with contemporary issues and to promote an “open-minded” intellectual approach, moving away from insular thinking confined to specific geographical boundaries.

Despite being a relatively new university, Yildirim Beyazit University houses experienced academics, many of whom were previously employed at other universities before transferring. The university employs about 915 academic staff members, many of whom have come from European universities and major universities in Turkey.
