To complete the enrollment in a Turkish university, Turkish universities require students to provide a certified language certificate in the language they wish to study in. For instance, students wishing to study in English must provide a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) certificate, or a certified Turkish language certificate from an accredited language institute in Turkey if they wish to study in Turkish.
If no certified language certificate is available, a language test date is set for the students. This procedure is conducted by the university to ensure the linguistic competence of the students and their full readiness and ability to study in that language. A minimum acceptance level is set, and if the student successfully passes the test, they are registered as a new student directly into the academic program. If the student fails the test, they are registered to study the language as a preparatory year at the university before starting their specialized studies.

Typically, the English language test is divided into four main sections: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The test time and number of questions are divided among these sections to measure the student’s proficiency and level to determine whether the student will be able to study and comprehend the course materials and lectures. First Stage: Level Determination

Second Stage: English Language Proficiency Test
Students who achieve suitable scores in the level determination test undergo a two-part proficiency test:
- Written Test: A set of multiple-choice questions to measure the student’s skills in reading, writing, and listening.
- Speaking Test: After completing the written test, students typically wait 30 minutes before starting the speaking test, which assesses the student’s ability to form correct sentences and listen effectively.
