About Gumushane University
Gumushane University is one of the leading public universities in Turkey, and it is prominently located in the city of Gümüşhane, northwest of Turkey. Founded in 2008, the university has laid out strategic plans for continually developing its departments and contributing to the country’s economic and agricultural growth. It also focuses on studying tourism resources to develop thriving tourism sector plans. Since its establishment, the university has expanded and opened numerous diverse departments to prepare and train its students for good job opportunities after graduation, fostering economic and urban development.
Gumushane University includes 7 faculties covering various disciplines, 2 institutes, another 2 institutes for postgraduate studies, and 10 vocational schools offering diverse professional programs for all students while adhering to the specific conditions and standards of each department in these faculties and institutions. It is also worth mentioning that in 2019, the university enrolled over 18,000 students from all around the world, making it one of the best universities in Turkey and globally.
Research Centers at Gumushane University
1- Medical and Pharmaceutical Research Center
This center aims to explore locations with medicinal plants used in the manufacture and composition of drugs, integrating soil study and medical compositions.
2- Research Center and Laboratory Applications
This center houses 9 laboratories, several offices, classrooms, changing rooms, and a café. It focuses on supporting students in conducting scientific research, especially in organic agriculture and mineral diversity, and other forms of research, and publishing their findings in the official journal with the aim of disseminating scientific theories both locally and internationally.
3- Language Education Research Center and Applications
This center organizes educational programs to train students in conducting research and practicing Turkish and foreign languages.
4- Educational Technology Research Center and Applications
This center is dedicated to developing frameworks for educational activities, preparing content, designing and evaluating methodologies used, and encouraging students to undertake developmental studies related to educational technologies.
5- Continuing Education Research Center and Applications
This center aims to organize all types of social activities and educational programs for faculty and university staff within the framework of continuing education through both private and public institutions associated with or affiliated with the university.
Student Activities at Gumushane University
First: Sports Department
This department aims to improve students’ physical and mental health by forming sports teams and training them to compete in annual university competitions and various competitions outside the university. The university supports athletic students competing outside the university by covering all expenses, including transport, accommodation, and meals, from the budget of the Sports, Cultural, and Health Services Department.
Second: Student Clubs
The university hosts more than 40 student clubs, each specializing in a specific area, such as journalism, arts and theater, healthy eating, photography, social work, and other diverse clubs.
Third: Cultural Department
The Arts and Culture Department aims to enhance cultural interaction through dialogue and discussion in poetry seminars and readings. The university also focuses on the artistic aspect by organizing film festivals and plays throughout the year, where students participate to support and develop their talents.
Health Insurance at Gumushane University
Student medical expenses are covered by the Public Social Security Institution, which ensures healthcare for the duration of their studies at the university in public hospitals. Students should refer to the university administration during their enrollment for this matter.
Note: All undergraduate programs at Gumushane University are taught in Turkish over a 4-year period.
