About Amasya University
Amasya University is located in the city of Amasya, which shares its name, a city historically significant as the upbringing and education ground for Ottoman princes and sultans preparing for rulership. Successive Turkish governments have maintained the city’s historical and cultural stature, focusing since the establishment of the Turkish Republic in 1923 on creating educational and training institutions to foster an educated generation that carries scientific, intellectual, and cultural responsibilities and pursues development, civilization, and technology.
To achieve this goal, the Turkish Ministry of Education established a higher education institute in Amasya in 1974, which laid the foundation for Amasya University. In 1975, the ministry also established an industrial education institute. In 1982, these institutes were affiliated with 19 May University in the neighboring city of Samsun, and on March 17, 2006, by parliamentary decision no. 26111, the Turkish government transformed these scientific institutes into Amasya University.
Today, years after its establishment, Amasya University is now among the top Turkish universities, including 6 faculties, over 40 departments, several scientific laboratories, and political, social, scientific, and technological research centers directly supported by the Turkish government. The university also boasts a substantial scientific library with a diverse and comprehensive collection of books and volumes.
