Ain Shams University is the third oldest university in Egypt, following Al-Azhar University and Cairo University. It is considered one of the strongest public universities in Egypt and the Middle East. The university was founded in July 1950 under the name “Ibrahim Pasha University.” Four years later, in 1954, the university’s name was changed to “Heliopolis University,” referencing one of the oldest universities in Egypt, the ancient “On” University, which was renowned for its astronomy, engineering, and medicine studies approximately 5000 years ago. In the same year, the name was changed again to “Ain Shams University.” “Ain Shams” is the Arabic translation of the ancient Egyptian word “Heliopolis.”
